Description:
- Engraving corresponding to Plate 48 on Architecture, belonging to the Popular Illustrated Encyclopaedia of Sciences and Arts, produced by Federico Gillman, and compiled in accordance with the Iconographic Encyclopaedia and the Conversations Lexicon of Germany.
- The engraving depicts the Zwinger, the Catholic church, and St Mary’s Church, all three in Dresden. The Imperial Palace, Prince Eugene’s Palace and St Charles’ Church, all three in Vienna. The Peller House in Nuremberg.
- The upper margin bears the title “ARCHITECTURE”, and the top right-hand corner is printed with “Lam. 48”, identifying it as Engraving number 48 in a series on architecture.
- The lower margin contains labels identifying the various parts of churches and palaces, both in Germany and in Vienna.
- Chalcographic etching on steel, although a different technique may also have been used.
