Precious Icon of San Juan Evangelista, in a sensibly circular way, oil on panel, probably of Russian origin.
It has a great invoice and very high quality of execution, made with very attractive subdued colors. It seems that the table is formed by two pieces, perhaps by some more, and its shape is slightly oval. It is not flat, being arched along a vertical axis. Its average thickness is about 0"7 cm. The veins of the wood are oriented vertically, being also vertical the union of the two pieces. Saint John the Evangelist is represented as an old man with little hair and long white beards, with the attributes corresponding to the author of one of the Gospels, which are an eagle with an inkwell in its beak, a pen and a book. His tunic is green, and his cloak is reddish brown.
The attribute that corresponds to Saint John the Evangelist, Apostle, as author of one of the Gospels, is an eagle as the basis of a desk or alternatively an eagle with an inkwell in its beak, also representing it with the symbols of a book and a pen .
The church of the East usually represents him as an old man with white beards, in contrast to the church of the West that represents him as a young man. The color used for the tunic, was initially white or blue, later using the green color, which represents nature and spiritual renewal.
