- The Carpet of the house where it had been used was recovered, subjected to a deep cleaning by specialists, and kept since then in adequate conditions.
Description:
- Chinese carpet, with smooth brown backgrounds, representing a lake with its islands and buildings.
- Almost square carpet, with smooth brown background, and smooth dark brown border, on which traditional Chinese drawings of geometrical shapes are developed, all with a possible influence of the modernist style.
- No Distinctive or Brand could be found.
- This Rug follows patterns inspired by the most ancient traditions of Chinese design and manufacture, obtaining a result of great originality.
- It is made of wool coloured with natural dyes and hand knotted, with a higher density of knots than the one normally used in the manufacture of the ancient Chinese carpets, resulting in a fairly thick carpet, with a soft and very flexible touch.
- The calculated knots of 125.000 Nudos/m2, is based on considering the knots as simple, when apparently they are double knots, which would imply a density of 250.000 Nudos/m2.
- We locate its manufacture in the Beijing Region, based on the probable theme of its drawings, dominated by different shades of both blue and very light beige colours, which probably represent the Kunming Lake, near Beijing, seat of the Imperial Summer Palace, since its motifs respond with enough similarity to those existing in the mentioned Lake.
- The background is smooth and light brown, on which a lake is represented. In its upper left vertex, it has a floral motif. Next to the inferior part of its left side, an island is represented, in which a pagoda appears, a house with a flag and a traditional Chinese arch or Paifang. Next to the upper part of its right side, it has a floral motif. In its lower right vertex there are small islands joined by bridges, as well as a Palafito that can be accessed from one of the islands.
- The border is smooth and dark brown. It has represented, in its superior right vertex and inferior left vertex, two vases with flowers.
- The Carpet has its Fringes and Edges in very good condition, presenting the greatest wear and tear in the centre of the lower third, concentrated mainly in the areas where the colours are lighter.
- It has not suffered any loss of fragments, so the Carpet is complete and whole, although it has some small breaks and occasional damage.
- The carpet releases a small amount of dust from the wool itself, which increases with friction.
