Buy Curved arms workshop compass. S.XIX

- Nice curved arms compass, from the First Half of the XIX century. This tool was used to transport distances in diverse workshops, like carpentry, sculpture metalwork, etc. As well as also used on site.
- The compass is made of iron, with the arms worked on their inner edges, forming a beautiful symmetrical shape.
- The pin of the turning axis is carefully riveted at its ends.
- In the compass rotation axis, a very thin steel plate has been introduced between the two arms, in order to improve the ease of rotation.
- This compass has a fantastic patina, so that, together with its characteristics, it can be placed in the Second Half of the 18th century, and it could even be from a much earlier period.
- The forms that have the inner edges of the arms of the compass correspond to the XVIII century and even to previous times, forms that were maintained at least in the First Half of the XIX century. This implies a great difficulty to be able to locate the compass in a concrete time, reason why we have inclined in locating it in the mentioned First Half of the XIX century.
- The irregularities that can be appreciated in the endings confirm its complete manual execution and, therefore, its possible earliest period.
- In the execution of the compass, great care has been taken with the endings, which can be seen in all its aspects, and more specifically in the shapes of the inner edges of the arms and the magnificent side rivets of the head.
- No sign or mark has been detected on the compass that could identify the authors of such a magnificent piece.

Conservation and damage:
- The state of the compass is "excellent", since it does not suffer any oxidation and does not present signs of having been used.
- The unusual state of conservation of the compass, is so magnificent that it induces to the mistake to date it correctly.
- The compass opens and closes perfectly, being able to completely turn the arms.
