Technique: Chalcographic etching.
Measurements: Paper: 12,7 x 20,7 cm
(H x W) Image: 8,9 x 14,3 cm.
Description:
- Engraving of the surroundings of Lausanne, with a view of the Château de St. Marie, annexed buildings, and the towers of Notre Dame Cathedral, with Lake Geneva in the background.
- All the titles and signatures are outside the plate. The Draughtsman is unknown.
- On the upper margin is the legend "Lac de Geneve - Lake Geneva - Genfersee".
- On the lower margin it reads "Lausanne - Lausanne - Lausanne".
- The number "3" is printed in the upper right-hand corner, suggesting that the engraving is the third in a series.
- In the lower right-hand corner, the Engraver signs only as Rouargue, so it belongs to one of the two Rouargue brothers. In our opinion, the author of the plate of the Engraving is most probably Adolphe Rouargue (1810 - After 1870)
- The engraving could have been done on a wood panel (woodcut), or on an etching steel panel, although a different technique could have been used.
- Made in black monochrome tone, very good ink
- It is probably an engraving belonging to a book.
- The Engraving has a paper of fine thickness and regular quality.

Conservation and damage:
- General condition: Good.
- The upper side of the paper does not maintain the parallel to its opposite side, resulting in the paper of the Engraving having an irregular shape.
- It is very well inked, and has a good printing.
- The side margins are wide.
- The Engraving has suffered from humidity, so the paper has damp spots and rust spots.
- If you apply a light wash and bleaching, the result would be very good.
