- Engraving corresponding to Plate 1 of Civilisation, belonging to the Popular Illustrated Encyclopaedia of Sciences and Arts, made by Federico Gillman, and formed according to the Iconographic Encyclopaedia and the Conversations Lexicon of Germany.
- The engraving depicts objects from the Ice Age and the Stone Age, such as: deer antler tools, all kinds of stone objects such as axes, etc.
- In the upper margin is the title "CIVILISATION", and in the upper right-hand corner is printed "Lam. 1", which identifies it as engraving number 1 in a series on civilisations.
- In the lower margin are the identifications of the different utensils and objects, such as the kidney-shaped horn, earthenware vessels, stone hammer head, amber bead, etc.
- Chalcographic etching on steel, although a different technique could also have been used.
- It is in single-colour black tone, very well inked, centred with acceptable margins and with good stamping.
