- Engraving corresponding to Plate 2 of Civilisation, belonging to the Popular Illustrated Encyclopaedia of Sciences and Arts, made by Federico Gillman, and formed according to the Iconographic Encyclopaedia and the Conversations Lexicon of Germany.
- The engraving depicts palustrine constructions or palafittes, which are dwellings built on wooden stakes, usually within a lake or river. Various elements of this type of construction are depicted, such as the arrangement of the stakes, objects from Lake Constance constructions, etc.
- In the upper margin is the title "CIVILISATION", and in the upper right-hand corner is printed "Lam. 2", which identifies it as engraving number 2 in a series on civilisations.
