Buy ENGRAVED FOUNTAIN WILLIAM TELL. ALTDORF. ROUARGUE.

- Engraving of the Fountain of Guillerno Tell, in Altdorf (Switzerland). Symbol of the Swiss struggle for freedom. It shows peasant women cleaning clothes in the fountain.
- According to tradition, William Tell was a crossbowman, famous for his marksmanship, who defied the governor's authority by refusing to salute his hat.
- All titles and signatures are outside the plate. The draughtsman is unknown.
- In the upper margin is the legend "Altorf - Altorf - Altdorf".
- In the lower margin is the legend "Fontaine de Guillaume Tell - Fontaine de Guillaume Tell - Tell's Brunnen".
- The number '12' is printed in the upper right-hand corner, suggesting that the engraving is number 12 in a series.
- In the lower margin, in the centre, the Engraver signs only as Rouargue, so it is by one of the two Rouargue brothers. In our opinion, the author of the engraving plate is most probably Adolphe Rouargue (1810 - After 1870).
- Chalcographic etching, although another technique could also have been used.
- It is probably an engraving from a book.
