- Guesdon engraving, Alfred Guesdon (1808-1876), was a French architect, engraver and lithographer. Known for the aerial lithographs he made of various European cities in the mid-19th century for publication in the magazine 'La Ilustration, Journal Universel de Paris'.
- This specific engraving was part of a series of images made in eleven Spanish cities, under the title: 'Spain from a bird's eye view'.
- The engraving, made in color, shows us the city of Alicante surrounded by walls. The two castles are shown, and the most important monuments of the city, the town hall, San Nicolás, etc.
- The port of Alicante was the most important in the Valencian Community in 1778, where you could trade with America.
- In the lower left, right and center margins are the identifications of the editor, printer and artist.
