- The black and white lithograph shows many figures in the foreground, several ships and galleons, part of the wall surrounding the city of Alicante, and Santa Bárbara Castle in the background.
- The engraver and artist are identified in the lower left and right corners.
- The artist is General Louis Albert Guislain Bacler dAlbe (1761-1824), who advised and accompanied Napoleon Bonaparte on numerous military campaigns. He was also one of the most important cartographers of his time and a prominent painter, who contributed to the renewal of battle painting. He left a large number of views of Madrid that he captured between 1808 and 1809 during two trips to Spain, in the midst of the War of Independence. Many of them were made with propaganda intentions, to the greater glory of Napoleon.
