- Edgar Degas (1834-1917) was a French painter, sculptor and engraver. He is considered one of the founders of Impressionism, although he himself called it Realism. He was one of the greatest draughtsmen in history due to his masterful capture of the sensations of life and movement, especially in his works depicting dancers, horse races and nudes.
- The painting is very famous, called The Absinthe, known as The Absinthe Drinker. It is set in the Café de la Nouvelle Athénes in the Place Pigalle in Paris. It depicts two figures, a woman and a man, sitting in the centre and on the right of the painting respectively. In front of her is a glass filled with a greenish liquid, absinthe. Both are drunk.
- The print is attached only at the top to a piece of cardboard, which has a pretty light brown line around it.
- The print can be lifted, but there is nothing written on it. At the bottom is a description of the print and the location of the original painting, which is in the Louvre in Paris.
