- Claude Monet (1840-1926) was a French painter and one of the founders of Impressionism. The term Impressionism derives from the title of his work Impression, Sunrise. His early works were realistic in style, and he exhibited some of them at the Paris Salon. From the late 1860s onwards, he began to paint Impressionist works.
- Monet produced a series of twelve paintings of the Parisian station when he became interested in the modern life of his time after having devoted himself to rural landscapes.
- The print is glued only at the top to a piece of cardboard, which has a beautiful light grey line surrounding the print.
