- A beautiful sundial, with all kinds of details. The front features a lovely, colorful, carved design.
- The sundial consists of a top and bottom cover. The bottom cover includes: the dial (the surface where the hours are marked); the retractable gnomon (the rod that casts the shadow); the engraved hour lines; and a small magnetic compass at the bottom.
- The top cover features a list of 42 American cities, with variations, latitudes, longitudes, and minutes. It also includes an equation with the months. The main latitude is set at 35 degrees.
- The mark at the bottom reads: ‘MFD. BY THE ANSONIA CLOCK CO. N.Y. U.S.A.’ – ‘PATENT SUNWATCH PENDING’.
- All parts are in perfect condition, including the gnomon and the compass.
- The company, Ansonia Clock, was a clock manufacturer founded in the USA in 1851. The company produced hundreds of different clock models. Its strength lay in the mass production of inexpensive clocks using stamped brass. Over the years, the company merged with the largest clock manufacturers in Bristol at the time. It closed its doors in 2006.
