Buy SMALL CHINESE CONCAVE CLOISONNÉ ENAMEL PLATE. 20TH CENTURY.

- Chinese cloisonné enamel plate, with a brass rim and copper frame.
- Cloisonné or cell-enamel is an ancient technique for decorating metal objects using vitrified enamel; in earlier periods, it also involved the inlaying of precious stones, glass and other materials.
- The plate is made using the flat enamel technique, a style in which the cells are not completely filled. When the enamel is melted in the kiln, surface tension causes it to curve towards the edges of the wire, creating small ‘valleys’ of colour.
- A small-to-medium-sized round plate from the first half of the 20th century.
- Blue enamel on the reverse, with numerous floral details on the upper surface.
- All the details on the upper part of the plate are in various colours: greens, reds, blues, and lilac/pinks.
- A row of silver-plated brass runs around the edge of the plate, as well as on the base.
- The frame of the plate appears to be made of copper.
