- Engraving corresponding to Plate 22 on Ethnography, part of the *Enciclopedia Popular Ilustrada de Ciencias y Artes* (Illustrated Popular Encyclopaedia of Sciences and Arts), produced by Federico Gillman and based on the *Enciclopedia Iconográfica* and the *Conversations Lexicon* from Germany.
- The engraving depicts figures from various tribes, as well as utensils, tools and rituals typical of these tribes.
- The upper margin bears the title ‘ETHNOGRAPHY’, and the top right-hand corner is stamped ‘Lam. 22’, identifying it as Engraving number 22 in a series on ethnography.
- The lower margin contains the identifications of the various figures and other elements, such as: the Dancalis, the Gallas, the Fundchas, the Dengas, the Darfur, the Basutos and the Barolongos.
- An etching on steel, although a different technique may also have been used.
- Executed in a single shade of black, with excellent ink coverage, well centred with acceptable margins and a good impression.
- The presence of any mark, stamp or contrast on the engraving is of great importance for identifying details such as the engraver, the draughtsman, the place of printing and other particulars.
