Description:
- Engraving corresponding to Plate 41 of Civilisation, belonging to the Popular Illustrated Encyclopaedia of Sciences and Arts, made by Federico Gillman, and formed according to the Iconographic Encyclopaedia and the Conversations Lexicon of Germany.
- The engraving shows different representations of society from the 14th to the 19th century.
- In the upper margin is the title ‘CIVILISATION’, and in the upper right-hand corner is printed ‘Lam. 41’, which identifies it as engraving number 41 in a series on civilisations.
- In the lower margin are the identifications of the different representations, among others, a knight and his lady, an Italian prince's meal, a festive dinner in 1580, a family reading in 1780, etc.
- Chalcographic etching on steel, although another technique could have been used.
- It is in single-colour black tone, very well inked, centred with acceptable margins and with a good stamping.
- The fact that the engraving has a distinctive mark or contrast is of great importance in order to be able to identify data such as the engraver, the artist, the place where it was printed and other details.

Conservation and Damage:
- General condition Good.
- The engraving is on medium-thick paper of fair quality.
- The paper is somewhat dirty, with some rust stains on the back, without affecting the drawings.
- The engraving has small tears and creases at the edges and tips.
- If a cleaning is applied to it, the result could be very acceptable.

Comments:
- Measurements are approximate.
- Engraving ideal as a decorative element.
- The tones of the colours of the photos are not equal to the tones of the real colours.
- The Engraving for sale is the one that corresponds to the photos. The description is not a detailed exposition of it.
- The data provided here are personal opinions not contrasted.
