Description:
- Engraving Piedra de Pertuis. Jura. Jura. Switzerland.
- This is a modest wood in the Jura mountains, between two towns a small road runs up a small pass between the two neighbouring valleys. In the forest, there is a limestone cliff on which there is an arch through which a path runs. What is unusual and special is that there is an inscription above the arch in red Roman letters. It was carved in the second half of the 1st century AD less than fifty years after the death of Jesus Christ and almost at the same time as the volcanic eruption of Vesuvius. It reads as follows: In honour of the emperor, this road was built by Marcus Dunius Paternus Duovirum of the Helvetic colony.
- All titles and signatures are outside the plate.
- In the upper margin is the legend 'JURA'.
- In the lower margin is the legend 'Pierre Pertuis - Pertuis Stone - Pertuis Felsen'.
- In the upper right-hand corner is printed the number '2', which suggests that the engraving is number 2 of a series.
- In the lower right corner, the Engraver signs only as Rouargue, so it is by one of the two Rouargue brothers. In our opinion, the author of the engraving plate is most probably Adolphe Rouargue (1810 - 1870).
- Chalcographic etching on steel plate, although another technique could also have been used.
- It is executed in single-colour black tone, very well inked.
- It is probably an engraving belonging to a book.

Conservation and Damage:
- General condition: Good.
- It is very well inked, and has a good stamping.
- The engraving is on medium-thick paper of average thickness and regular quality.
- The engraving has suffered from humidity, so the paper has damp stains and rust spots, all of which are more pronounced as we approach the edges.
- The engraving is dirty, and the edges are much dirtier, with very small tears, and the tips are slightly deteriorated with slight bending.
- A light washing and bleaching would be a very good result.

Comments:
- Measurements are approximate.
- Ideal engraving as a decorative element.
- The tones of the colours in the photos are not the same as the tones of the real colours.
- The Engraving for sale is the one that corresponds to the photos. The description is not a detailed exposition of it.
- The data provided here are personal opinions not contrasted.
