Description:
- A jug for earthenware milk of acceptable quality, made in Japan, probably during the Meiji Era (1868-1912), incorporating the "Navy Blue" of the classic Imperial Satsuma Style.
- The Jug is in very good condition, especially the gilt ones which are fairly well preserved, with the exception of two blows to the edge of the lid which have torn off two small fragments.
- The enamel inside the Jug, which has been left with the colour of the earthenware, is very dark, as very hot milk has been introduced due to its use.
- The defects detected in the Jug are limited to significant bubbles in many parts, and in particular those located in the White Enamel, due to its manufacture. It also shows a more pronounced wear in the gold of its handle.
- The Jug has a medium thickness, with no sound to the touch, made with a light beige coloured earthenware, giving a yellowish appearance to the colourless enamel. All the enamel of the Jug is cracked in very small fractions. The earthenware contains a quality that could bring it closer to that of stoneware.
- On the outside, the Jug has a "Golden" background, crossed by a band of "Navy Blue" with golden flowers, so that dark tones dominate. It has drawn several Japanese characteristic figures. Two women expressing tolerance and seven men expressing aggression. All the figures are interlaced by a Dragon with scales in relief of White Enamel.
- On the underside of its base, which has been left in the colour of the earthenware, the Mark"s Seal is stamped. This Seal includes a gold "Circle with a Cross" on a brown base, a sign of the Monk Shimazu. Also, the other Signs that appear on the Seal probably identify the place where it was made and the name of the manufacturer.
- After careful analysis, we have concluded that the technique for its decoration is mixed, using decals in some places and hand-drawing most of the Jug.
- All these characteristics that the Jug has, provide a very interesting patina, with a very attractive and quality appearance.
