Description:
- Can opener with wooden handle.
- The can opener was a utensil designed to open tin cans, but it was not invented until 45 years after the appearance of canned preserves, so until that time all kinds of instruments were used to open them.
- This piece in question is a rather primitive can opener given its design. We think it may date from the end of the second half of the 19th century.
- It has a wooden handle. The upper part is all iron, made in one piece.
- The mechanism is very simple, designed to press hard while cutting the can.
- No distinctive mark or contrast has been found that could provide information on where it was made, the maker"s details, or any other information.
Preservation and damage:
- The can opener does not have any major cracks or dents.
- The wooden handle has bumps and scratches due to use.
- The Object shows wear and tear typical of it"s age.
