SATSUMA PORCELAIN SUGAR BOWL. JAPANESE. TAISHO.

Description:
- Porcelain sugar bowl of Japanese origin, in the classic Satsuma style.
- We include it in the Taisho era (1912-1926).
- It is a beautiful golden coloured sugar bowl, with several characteristic Japanese figures. All hand-painted.
- The sugar bowl is of medium thickness, with a sound to the touch, made of white porcelain.
- The figures, painted in great detail, depict four men expressing aggression, against two women expressing patience.
- All the figures are intertwined by a dragon with scales in white enamel relief.
- The white enamel is visible at the base, and the seal of the mark is stamped in its centre. This stamp includes a series of signs in gilding on a dark red, which probably identify the place of manufacture, the period and the name of the maker.
- After analysing the sugar bowl, we have come to the conclusion that the technique used is mixed, using decals on some parts and hand-drawing on most of the teapot.
- All these characteristics give the sugar bowl a very interesting patina, with a very attractive and high quality appearance.

Conservation and Damage:
- The sugar bowl is in good condition.
- It is complete, with its original lid. There are no hairs or flaking.
- Some areas show wear to the paint and the gilding, but these are not very important.
- It shows wear typical of it’s age.

Comments:
- We have a matching teapot and milk jug.
- Measurements and weight are approximate.
- The tones of the colours in the photos are not the same as the tones of the real colours.
