Description:
- Colour engraving of a Cortez Warrior, by Gerard Ter Borch.
- Gerard Ter Borch (1617-1681) Dutch painter and excellent portraitist, but even better as a genre painter. He depicts with admirable truth the life of the wealthy and cultivated classes of his time, and his work is free from any touch of the coarseness often found in Dutch art. His figures are well drawn and expressive in their attitudes.
- The painting called the Courteous Warrior or the Gallant Officer, a clearly sarcastic title as the man is offering coins to a woman.
- The plate is not glued to any cardboard, and the original painting is in the Louvre Museum.
- The print is good. Colour.
