Description:
- Oil on canvas of the ancient trading town of Medemblik, formerly known in Latin as Medemleck.
- It is not signed, but the workmanship is very good.
- The oil painting depicts the former prosperous 13th century trading town in the Netherlands, formerly West Frisia. It was an important town in its time, where several fortresses were built, of which only Radboud Castle remains standing. Later on, city walls were built. Today the town has been reborn as a centre for water sports and summer tourism, in addition to its old town centre with beautiful houses, some of which date back to the 17th century.
- The oil painting shows several people in the foreground, with the fortified town in the background, with the church and castle as prominent buildings.
- The artistic quality and execution are very good. The fine brushstrokes are very loose, which gives the oil painting a great liveliness.
