Description:
Pretty bronze and iron bell. The bell is complete, keeping all its parts, extreme this very rare, because it is very difficult to find them completely complete. This is a bell that can have several uses. It was susceptible to give a domestic use. The most common use was to warn of the presence of certain animals, for which it was hung from the animal"s collar.
The yoke that it conserves is the original one, and consists of a metallic piece with a form near the elliptical one, anchored in the handle by means of a bolt riveted by both sides. It is in an advanced state of oxidation.
The handle is square, with a central hole that is where the Yoke is anchored. The shoulder, upper part of the bell, is smooth. The half foot, outlined externally with three incised rings, is the place where the clapper hits, that being such a small bell is not reinforced externally. The foot itself has been reinforced with a thicker cup. The ring is very thin, although it is not preserved in perfect condition. The cane is made of iron, very oxidized, but it is complete. The ball is made of bronze.
The bell is little used, so the interior of the half foot has the mark of the clapper slightly marked.
After carefully analyzing the bell, we have come to the conclusion that it is cast in two pieces. In the first phase the glass melts leaving a hole in its upper part. In the second phase the handle is fused, to which the ring is added, which is inserted through the hole left in the cup.
This bell has been abandoned for a long time somewhere with a high degree of humidity, which is why all its iron parts are so oxidized. It has an extraordinary patina, which greatly enhances its image.
