Description:
- Numbered iron can opener.
- The can opener was a utensil designed to open tin cans, but it was not invented until 45 years after the appearance of canned preserves, so until that time all kinds of instruments were used to open them.
- This piece in question is a rather primitive can opener given its design. We think it could be from the end of the second half of the 19th century.
- Made in two pieces and all iron. It has what looks like an engraved English mark and numbering.
- The mechanism is very simple, designed to press hard while cutting the can.
- It has the following inscription: The Canberra. "Made in England". Rº Nº542651. On the lower part there is another inscription which has faded from wear.
- It is of great importance that the object has some distinctive mark or contrast, in order to be able to identify data such as its maker, the place where it was made and other details.
Preservation and damage:
- The can-opener has no major cracks or dents.
- The iron has small rust spots, dents and scratches. Part of the inscription has been erased due to wear and tear.
- The object shows wear and tear typical of it"s age.

Comments:
- Both the measurements and the weight are approximate.

- Very interesting as a collector"s item and decorative element.

- The tones of the colours in the photos are not the same as the tones of the real colours.

- The object for sale is the one that corresponds to the photos.
