Japanese or Chinese polychrome compact with tassel. S.XIX.

Description:
- Wooden compact with original tassel inside.
- We think it could be from the second half of the 19th century, probably coming from Asia, Japan.
- The compact still has the original tassel inside, with traces of powder.
- The box is very attractive. On the lid there are three Japanese characters, while on the body of the box there are four.
- The faces of all the characters are enamelled and lacquered, the rest of the box is polychromed in red, black and gold.
- We think that part of the gilded area is polychromed in gold, and the other part is decorated with gold leaf.
- The entire box is lacquered. The tassel has a small ball that could be a turquoise stone.
- No distinctive mark or contrast has been found that could provide information on where it was made, the maker"s details, or any other information.

Conservation and Damage:
- The compact is made to a high standard of quality and is in very good condition.
- The entire compact has been thoroughly cleaned, resulting in an exquisite result.
- On both the lid and the body of the compact, there are areas where the red polychrome has peeled off.
- The tassel is in very good condition, used but complete.
- Both the interior and the exterior have minor flaws, dents and scratches due to age.
