Description:
- Oil on oval board. We think that its author is Joos de Momper the Younger.
- Joos de Momper the Younger (1564-1635) Flemish painter, draughtsman and engraver, was one of the most important Flemish landscape painters, together with Pieter Brueghel the Elder and Peter Paul Rubens. He was greatly influenced by Brueghel in his paintings. From the 17th century onwards, his paintings were characterised by a more realistic representation, with a light, loose style that conveys the natural sensibility of the landscapes. His mountain landscapes grew in size and the brushstrokes became looser, but the motifs remained the same. He often depicted his native land, both in winter and summer.
- It is unsigned, and his workmanship is excellent. Most of his works are unsigned and undated, yet his art is unmistakable.
- The oil painting depicts a mountain landscape. It shows a bridge in the central part and several figures crossing it. In the background, in the background, we see a mountainous area divided by a sea or a river. The left side of the mountain takes centre stage in the oil painting, together with the bridge and its figures.
- The artistic quality and execution is spectacular. With a fine line, the brushstrokes are very loose, which gives a great liveliness to the oil painting.
- The details of the oil painting and the handling of the colours are truly magnificent. The ochre colours predominate.
- The frame, made at a later date, is a high quality wood carving that provides a perfect fit with the oil painting. The panel is oval.
