Description:
- Plumb bob Construction of the second half of the 17th century, with bronze weight, 3,9 cm. high, 3,6 cm. diameter and a weight of 286 gr.
- This is a very rare and uncommon plumb bob.
- The bronze pesa has a trunk shape, with three deep grooves along the body, and an integrated head. It has a nut.
- The nut, which is square and made entirely of wood, is not original to the plumb bob, but is perfectly suited to its purpose.
- The weight is perforated vertically, with two different diameters, having made a larger cavity in its lower part, which allows the Cordura to pass through and its knot to be lodged in the vertical perforation of greater diameter and therefore integrated in the Pesa.
- Due to its characteristics it could be earlier, but we are more inclined towards the second half of the 17th century.
- On the upper part of the plumb bob we find two initials inscribed: "F D".
- The fact that a plumb bob has a distinctive mark or contrast, other than the number of its size, is a very rare detail and of great importance for the interest of the plumb bob.
- The plumb bob was probably made in southern Europe.
Conservation and damage:
- The plumb bob is in a good state of preservation, with many, but very small knocks and scratches, both on the edges and on the faces.
- The quality of the casting of the Pesa is very good, and care has been taken in the finishing details, such as the rounding of the edges.
- The bronze has a very good composition, retaining a natural lustre.
- A very good and beautiful patina has been preserved throughout the plumb bob.
- The plumb bob shows wear typical of it"s age.
