Description:
- Photogravure plate from the early 20th century.
- Photoengraving is the production of relief prints by transferring photographic images onto a plate for printing in such a way that light or dark areas become susceptible to engraving. It is normally applied to metal, but can also be used on glass, plastic or other materials.
- The plate is worked to the highest quality, and is based on an engraving by Albrecht Dürer, The Crucifixion.
- Its conservation is magnificent, having been used only on a few occasions.
- It depicts Christ on the Cross, by Dürer. It has Dürer's signature in the lower central part.
Conservation and Damage:
- The plate is in very good condition.
- It is smooth and has no relief.
- It was originally nailed to wood. We have removed the wood as it was deteriorated.
- The object shows the wear and tear of it's age.
