Description:
- Paris Mint bronze medal. Dated July 9th 1905.
- Medal of the fiftieth anniversary of the Louvre department store in 1855.
- The obverse shows: An allegorical female figure amidst clouds inscribing in a book held by a child.
- It is signed by the sculptor Daniel Dupuis (1849-1899). French painter, sculptor and engraver of medals.
- The reverse bears the following inscription: ‘Cinquantenaire des grands magasins du Louvre 1855 9 Juillet 1905’.
- Edge: ‘Bronze’.
- This is a beautiful medal with a very nice and high quality relief. Signed and dated.
- The artistic quality of the medal is high, executed in a very personal style and with great fluency, achieving harmonious and expressive effects in the high reliefs.
Conservation and Damage:
- The medal, taken as a whole, is in a very good state of preservation.
- It has a beautiful period patina. There are a few minor knocks and scratches.
- Both the Obverse and Reverse of the Medal show low and even wear.
