Description:
- Engraving corresponding to Plate 53 of Civilisation, belonging to the Popular Illustrated Encyclopaedia of Sciences and Arts, made by Federico Gillman, and formed according to the Iconographic Encyclopaedia and the Conversations Lexicon of Germany.
- The engraving shows various locations, mainly in monuments, but also outdoors. They are related to events and festivals of the time.
- In the upper margin is the title ‘CIVILISATION’, and in the upper right-hand corner is printed ‘Lam. 53’, which identifies it as engraving number 53 in a series on civilisations.
- In the lower margin are the identifications of the different geographical locations that appear in the engraving, such as: a room in the castle of a German grand duke, his gardens. An artistic festival, a building erected for the gymnasts' festival in 1863, the international exhibition in Vienna in 1873, a European colony in the south of Brazil, etc.
- Intaglio etching on steel, although another technique could also have been used.
- Produced in monochrome black, very well inked, centred with acceptable margins and with good stamping.
- The fact that the engraving has a distinctive mark or contrast is of great importance in order to be able to identify data such as the engraver, the artist, the place where it was printed and other details.

Conservation and Damage:
- General condition Good.
- The engraving is on medium-thick paper of fair quality.
- The paper is somewhat dirty, but there are hardly any rust stains.
- The engraving has small tears and folds at the edges and tips.
- If a cleaning is applied to it, the result could be very acceptable.

Comments:
- Measurements are approximate.
- Ideal engraving as a decorative element.
- The tones of the colours of the photos are not equal to the tones of the real colours.
- The Engraving for sale is the one that corresponds to the photos. The description is not a detailed exposition of it.
- The data provided here are personal opinions not contrasted.
