Description:
- Complete plumb bob for construction from the second half of the 18th century, with a solid iron weight, 4.3 cm high (diameter) and 7.9 cm wide, which is cylindrical in shape, perforated diametrically to pass the cord through, and with two slits in the centres of the lateral circumferences, so that the head is integrated into the weight itself. A new cord has been attached. Its total weight is 473 g.
- The wooden nut is perforated diametrically for the cord to pass through. Its width is 3.7 cm, coinciding with the width of the weight, and its diameter is 5.5 cm.
- The quality of the plumb bob's workmanship is very good, both in terms of the casting and turning of the iron weight and the turning of the wooden nut, all with simple and very good finishes.
- The plumb bob was probably made in southern Europe.
- No markings, stamps or hallmarks have been found on either the weight or the nut that could provide information about where it was made, the manufacturer or its characteristics.
- Due to the characteristics of the iron and wood, it has retained a very attractive patina.
Conservation and Damage:
- This plumb bob has been well cared for, so both the weight and the nut are in very good condition, with many slight dents and scratches on the edges and sides, as well as on the faces, all of which correspond to the extensive use of the plumb bob. The nut has very small areas of missing wood on its edges.
