Description:
- Travel book on Africa.
- Picturesque Africa. The Great Lakes region by Victor Giraud. The Congo. Explorations in West Africa by Saborgnan de Brazza. Splendidly illustrated edition.
- The author, a French scholar and literary critic, received the gold medal for literary criticism, and was made a knight of the legion of honour. He was called the Sainte-Beuve of his time.
- Edition full of engravings in monochrome black, on his travels through the African continent.
- The first part on the lakes of equatorial Africa, and the second, three years in the Congo.

Book Description:
- Sewn binding of good execution, with guillotined cuts.
- Text in single-colour black printing, very good ink, with good stamping, and generally well centred and with good margins.
- Engravings both inserted in the text and full-page, mostly in monocolour in black. They are well stamped and well centred.
- Text and engravings on very brittle tan paper, of medium thickness and regular quality.
- Hard covers in red half cloth, with stamping in gilt and black, and maroon leather spine with ribs and stamping in gilt, of good quality.

Conservation and Damage:
- The general condition of the book is - The book has suffered stains and rubbing.
- The pages of the text are in fair condition, as the paper used is of fair quality and over time has become very brittle, tearing very easily.
- There is a stain affecting the text, produced by a foreign body, between the first page of the book (flyleaf), and its influence extends to page 47.
- The leaves corresponding to pages 1, 2, 175, 176, 185, 186, 207, 208 have significant tears, which have been repaired to prevent further deterioration.
- Numerous leaves with small tears, also repaired.
- The engravings are in good condition, some of them have small parts affected by rust.
- The flyleaves are in good condition, with folds and rust stains, but intact.
- The covers are in very good condition, only the spine is somewhat worn, with rubbing on the edges, but in good condition.
- The cuts are well preserved, have small black specks and with little soiling.

Comments:
- Both the Measurements, as well as the Weight, are approximate.
- The tones of the colours in the photos are not the same as the tones of the real colours.
- The Book for sale is the one that corresponds to the photos.
- The description is not a detailed exposition of the book.
