BAS-RELIEF PLAQUE OF THE ADORATION OF THE MAGI.

Description:
- Bas-relief plaque of the Adoration of the Magi, in yellow bronze, from the first half of the 20th century. The plaque is solid and of a single piece, emphasising the harmony and calmness that its contemplation transmits.
- The casting of the Plaque is very good, and its execution very careful, having generated a beautiful patina product of time, with a very attractive and high quality appearance, which is a spectacular result.
- The Plaque reproduces one of the high reliefs made in alabaster and located in the backchamber of the Cathedral of León, specifically the 'Adoration of the Magi', made in the 16th century by Esteban Jordán.
- This plaque belongs to a series, possibly short, of 'Pairs of Plaques' (the pair is the Adoration of the Shepherds), probably commissioned as commemorative objects or as gifts.
- On the back are the details of the high relief reproduced ('Adoration of the Magi'), its author and period ('Esteban Jordán - 16th century'), and the place where it is to be found ('Trascoro de la Catedral de León'). Our Plate does not have these inscriptions on the back, which is completely flat, perhaps because it has been cast without them, or more probably because the inscriptions have been removed by polishing the back of the Plate.
- The Plate has no markings or contrast that could identify it, regardless of what has been stated above.
Provenance:
- It belonged to the Vicar of Soria, who gave it to Sefarad for sale.
- It comes from the purchase, in the year 2021, at the Torre Pacheco Fair in the Province of Murcia.
Conservation and damage:
- The plaque is in perfect condition,
- Our plaque has no inscriptions on the back, which is completely flat, perhaps because it has been cast without them, or more probably because the inscriptions have been removed by polishing the back of the plaque.
- The bronze shows wear typical of it's age.
