Description:
- Beautiful hanging bell of a medium size, with a diameter of the lip of 9,4 cm.
- At the time it was used for various purposes. The most common use was to warn of the presence of certain animals, for which it was hung from the animal's collar.
- The shoulder, the upper part of the bell, is smooth. The half-foot, where the clapper strikes, is reinforced on the outside and is marked with two rings and the thicker part of the foot.
- The ring is very thin, and has a lot of rust.
- The clapper is original and in good condition, although it has rust.
- The bell is used, as the inside of the half-foot has the imprint of the clapper marked on it.
- After carefully analysing the bell, we have come to the conclusion that it is cast in two parts.
- In the first phase, the cup is cast, leaving a hole in the upper part. In the second phase, the handle is cast, to which the ring is added, and which is inserted through the hole left in the cup.
- It is quite rare to find a bell of this size and so complete.
- No distinctive mark or contrast has been found that could provide information on where it was made, the maker's details, or any other information.
Conservation and damage:
- The bell is in a good state of preservation, with several knocks and scratches on both the top and the upper part of the bell.
- It retains a beautiful patina of the period.
- The clapper is rusty and is due to a possible temporary abandonment in a very humid area.
- The object shows the wear and tear of it's age.
