ENGRAVING CUP MEROVINGIAN KINGS.

Description:
- Engraving Cup given to Reims by the Merovingian Kings.
- In the engraving appears the cup of the Merovingians, in a wide form and taking care of the detail.
- All the titles and signatures are outside the plate.
- In the upper margin is the legend 'FRANCE (Merovingians) - FRANCE (Merovingiens)'.
- In the lower margin is the legend 'Cup given to Rheims by the Merovingian Kings'.
- In the upper right corner is printed the number '163', which suggests that the engraving is number 163 of a series.
- Augustin François Lemaître: French engraver, lithographer, designer, publisher and photographer. He depicted many landscapes, monuments, architecture and people, especially during his many travels in Europe.
- Intaglio etching on steel, although a different technique could also have been used.
- It is probably an engraving from a book.
Conservation and damage:
- General condition: Good.
- The ink is very good and the print is well stamped.
- The engraving is in monochrome black, with very good ink.
- The engraving is on medium-thick paper of average thickness and regular quality, glued at the corners to another paper.
- The engraving is dirty, and the edges are much dirtier, with very small tears, and the tips are slightly deteriorated with slight bending. It has small damp and rust stains.
- If it were lightly washed and bleached, the result would be very good.
