ENGRAVING FIREPLACE IN CREPY. FRANCE. S.XIX

Description:
- Engraving chimney in Crepy.
- In the engraving appears the chimney in Crepy, of a wide form and taking care of the detail.
- All the titles and signatures are outside the plate.
- In the upper margin it has the legend 'FRANCE (SºXV) - FRANCE (XVº. S)'.
- In the lower margin it has the legend 'Cheminée à Crepy'.
- In the upper right-hand corner is printed the number '451', which suggests that the engraving is number 451 of a series.
- Augustin François Lemaître: French engraver, lithographer, designer, publisher and photographer. He depicted many landscapes, monuments, architecture and people, especially during his many travels in Europe.
- Auguste-Alexandre Guillaumot (1815-1892), French engraver, painter and designer.
- Chalcographic etching on steel, although a different technique could also have been used.
- It is probably an engraving from a book.
Conservation and damage:
- General condition: Good.
- The ink is very good and the print is well stamped.
- It is in single-colour black, with very good ink.
- The upper side of the paper is not parallel to its opposite side, resulting in an irregularly shaped engraving.
- The engraving is on medium-thick paper of average thickness and regular quality, glued at the corners to another paper.
- The engraving is dirty, and the edges are much dirtier, with very small tears, and the tips are slightly deteriorated with slight bends. It has small damp and rust stains.
- If it were lightly washed and bleached, the result would be very good.
