Description:
Etching probably in etching steel (can be another type of plate or technique). Recorder: L. Normand. Director: Roux. In the upper margin, the legend 'Costumes Français' appears. French suits
We think it could be a series about French costumes, so other engravings could be missing. In the upper right corner is the inscription Pl 28.
In the upper left corner, it has the inscription 'Sup.t'. In the lower margin of the engraving, each garment is indicated with a description and the year to which it belongs.
In the lower left corner, the inscription Roux.dir.t appears, so we interpret that the address of this engraving was under an artist named Roux, belonging to Eugéne Le Roux, French painter and lithographer born in 1833 and died in 1905.
In the lower right corner, the inscription L. Normand, sc. So we estimate that this engraving was made by Louis Marie Normand, French architect and engraver born in 1789 and died in 1874, dates that coincide with the making of the engraving.
The margins are sufficient but unequal, with the upper margin folded and with binding markers in the lower margin.
Thick paper of great quality, something yellowish, with dirt and rust marks.
The edges are those that present major deterioration, especially the inferior, with perforations and small breaks due to its binding. Engravings on clothing are rare to find.
Comments: Due to the fact that the differences in tonalities between photos and reality are inevitable, we must bear in mind that the color tones of the photos are not exactly the same as the tones of the actual colors. The engraving presents the wear characteristic of its time, as well as some stains. It has small flaws. The information provided here are personal opinions not contrasted.
