ENGRAVING HOUSE OF THE CITY IN SAN QUINTIN. S.XIX.

Description:
- Engraving Casa de la Ciudad en San Quintín.
- The engraving shows the main façade of the Casa la Ciudad.
- All the titles and signatures are outside the plate.
- In the upper margin it has the legend 'France XVªS - Francia SºXV'.
- In the lower margin is the legend 'Hotel de Ville de Saint Quentin'.
- Today it is the town hall of Saint Quentin, a symbol of communal freedoms, and its architecture reveals a certain Flemish influence.
- The number '447' is printed in the upper right-hand corner, suggesting that the engraving is number 447 in a series.
- In the lower right corner, the engraver signs it as Lemaitre direxit (Augustin François Lemaître).
- In the lower left-hand corner, the draughtsman signs as E. Breton del.
- Augustin François Lemaître (1797-1870). French engraver, lithographer, designer, publisher and photographer. He depicted many landscapes, monuments, architecture and people, especially during his many travels in Europe.
- Intaglio etching on steel plate, although a different technique could also have been used.
- Produced in a single-colour black tone, very well inked.

- It is very well inked, and has a good stamping.
- The lateral, upper and lower margins are wide.
- The engraving is on thin, regular quality paper, glued at the corners to another paper.
- The engraving has small rust spots.
- If it were lightly washed and bleached, the result would be very good.
