Description:
- Engraving Sepulchre of Norague
- The engraving shows the Sepulchre of Norague, also known as the Tombs of the Giants.
- These are funerary monuments made up of collective tombs from the Nuragic period found all over the island of Sardinia.
- All the titles and signatures are outside the plate.
- In the upper margin is the legend 'SARDAIGNE - SARDINIA'.
- In the lower margin is the legend 'Tombeau dit Noragel - Sepulchre of Norague'.
- In the upper right-hand corner is printed the number '2', which suggests that the engraving is number 2 of a series.
- In the lower centre corner the director signs as Lemaitre Dir.
- Augustin François Lemaître: French engraver, lithographer, designer, publisher and photographer. He depicted many landscapes, monuments, architecture and people, especially during his many travels in Europe.
- Intaglio etching on steel, although a different technique could also have been used.
- It is probably an engraving from a book.
Conservation and damage:
- General condition: Good.
- The ink is very good, and it has a good stamping.
- It is in single-colour black, with very good ink.
- It has good margins, both at the top and bottom, as well as on the sides.
- The engraving has a medium thick paper and regular quality, glued by the corners to another paper.
- The engraving is dirty, and the edges are much dirtier, with very small tears, and the tips are slightly deteriorated with slight bends. It has small damp and rust stains.
- If a light washing and bleaching were applied, the result would be very good.
