Description:
- Engraving corresponding to Plate 20 on Ethnography, part of the Popular Illustrated Encyclopaedia of Sciences and Arts, produced by Federico Gillman, and based on the Iconographic Encyclopaedia and the Conversations Lexicon from Germany.
- The engraving features people from various tribes, some of them African, such as the Bushmen (Hottentots), the Tswana, also known as Tswana or Batswana, the Basotho, and the Zulus. Also depicted are the Korowai (Koranas), an indigenous tribe inhabiting the remote jungles of West Papua, and the Hovas of Madagascar, as well as a street in Tamatave (Madagascar).
- The upper margin bears the title “ETHNOGRAPHY”, and the top right-hand corner is printed with “Lam. 20”, identifying it as Engraving number 20 in a series on ethnography.
- The lower margin contains the identifications of the various figures, utensils and settlements.
- An etching on steel, although a different technique may also have been used.
- Executed in monochrome black, with excellent ink coverage, well centred with acceptable margins and a good impression.
- The presence of any mark, stamp or watermark on the print is of great importance for identifying details such as the engraver, the draughtsman, the place of printing and other particulars.

Conservation and Damage:
- Overall condition: good.
- The print is on medium-weight paper of fair quality.
- The paper has hardly any rust spots.
- The print has small tears and creases along the edges and corners.
