Description:
- Engraving Grutli. Jury of the threeSwiss.
- All titles and signatures are outside the plate.
- In the upper margin it has the legend ‘Switzerland - Suisse’.
- In the lower margin is the legend ‘Grutly. Serment des trois Suisses - Grutli. Oath of the three Swiss’.
- The number ‘8’ is printed in the upper right-hand corner, suggesting that the engraving is number 8 in a series.
- In the lower right corner, the Engraver signs only as Rouargue, so it is by one of the two Rouargue brothers. In our opinion, the author of the engraving plate is most probably Adolphe Rouargue (1810 - 1870).
- Chalcographic etching on steel plate, although another technique could also have been used.
- Produced in single-colour black tone, very well inked.
- It is probably an engraving belonging to a book.
Conservation and Damage:
- General condition: Good.
- It is very well inked, and has a good stamping.
- The engraving is on medium-thick paper of average thickness and regular quality.
- The engraving has suffered from humidity, so the paper has small humidity stains and rust spots, all of which are more pronounced as we approach the edges.
- The engraving is dirty, and the edges are even dirtier, with very small tears, and the tips are slightly deteriorated with slight bending.
- A light washing and bleaching would be a very good result.
Comments:
- Measurements are approximate.
- The tones of the colours in the photos are not the same as the tones of the real colours.
- The Print for sale is the one that corresponds to the photos. The description is not a detailed exposition of the same.
- The data provided here are personal opinions not contrasted.
