Measurements: Paper: 13,2 x 20,4 cm
(H x W) Image: 9,5 x 14,8 cm.
Description:
- Engraving of the Guillerno Tell Fountain, in Altdorf (Switzerland) Symbol of the Swiss people's fight for freedom. Peasant women are shown cleaning clothes in the fountain.
- According to tradition, William Tell was a crossbowman, famous for his marksmanship, who defied the authority of the governor by refusing to salute his hat.
- All the titles and signatures are off the plate. The Draughtsman is unknown.
- In the upper margin he has the legend 'Altorf - Altorf - Altdorf'.
- On the lower margin is the legend 'Fontaine de Guillaume Tell - William Tell Fountain - Tell's Brunnen'.
- In the upper right-hand corner it is printed with the number '12', which suggests that the engraving is the number 12 of a series.
- In the lower margin, in the centre, the Engraver signs only as Rouargue, so it belongs to one of the two Rouargue brothers. In our opinion, the author of the plate of the Engraving is most probably Adolphe Rouargue (1810 - After 1870)
- Etching, although a different technique could have been used.
- It is probably an Engraving belonging to a book.
Conservation and damage:
- General condition: Good.
- The Engraving has a paper of fine thickness and regular quality.
- Made in black monochrome tone, very good ink and good printing.
- The lateral margins are wide.
- The Engraving has suffered humidity, so the paper has damp spots and rust spots.
- If it is slightly washed and bleached, the result would be very good.
Comments:
- The measurements are approximate.
- Engraving is ideal as a collector's item and a decorative element.
- The fact that the engraving has a distinctive mark or contrast is very important in order to identify data such as the engraver, the artist, the place where it was printed and other details.
- Because it is inevitable that there will be differences in tones between photos and reality, you should bear in mind that the tones of the colours in the photos are not exactly the same as the tones of the real colours.
- The Engraving on sale is the one that corresponds to the photos, which in turn are complemented in this Description, with the aim of providing a better knowledge of the Object, and never being a detailed exhibition of it.
- The data provided here are not contrasted personal opinions.
