Description:
- A curious and beautiful Indo-Persian bottle with relief decoration.
- The bottle has a very unusual shape; we believe it may have been a water bottle, although given its material, this would be somewhat strange. Made of wood or papier-mâché.
- It is entirely decorated with very thick gold paint, which is why a marvellous relief can be seen; it is all hand-painted. The base is black, and has some areas painted red.
- We believe it may be Indo-Persian, given its decoration.
- The bottle could date from the late 18th century, but it is likely to be older.
- The neck may be missing a stopper, if it were a water bottle – though we doubt this is the case.
- We have observed that the inner rim of the neck features a rigid flange running along the inside edge of the bottle’s neck.
- It has a spectacular design, which is very rare and seldom seen. It has a small neck and a very voluptuous body.
- No markings, brand names or engravings have been found that might provide information on the place of manufacture, the manufacturer or any other details.
Conservation and Damage:
- The bottle is in perfect condition.
- It retains a spectacular period patina.
- It has minor knocks and scuffs due to age.
- The paint has flaked off in many places on the bottle, mainly on the most raised areas.
- The item shows the wear and tear typical of it's age.
