Description:
- Instrumental plumb bob from the second half of the 19th century without a nut and therefore incomplete. Bronze weight, with threaded head.
- The weight is pear-shaped, 10.5 cm high, 5 cm in diameter and 447 gr.
- The body of the weight is made of bronze with an iron tip.
- A chiselled band can be seen on the body and head of the weight.
- The iron tip has a horizontal channel that covers the entire perimeter. It is made by hand, probably with a flat file and its purpose is unknown.
- No distinguishing mark or contrast has been found that could provide information on the place where it was made, information on the manufacturer and information on its characteristics.
- Very good and beautiful patina is preserved throughout the Plumb bob.
- The quality of the bronze casting, and of the execution of the Plumb bob, is very good.
- The Plumb bob is probably made in Southern Europe.
Conservation and damage:
- The Plumb bob is in good state of conservation, having the Weigh many, but very small blows and rubs.
- The Plumb bob presents the typical wear of its time.
Comments:
- Both the measurements and the weight are approximate.
- Very interesting as a collector's item and as a decorative element.
- Because it is inevitable the differences of tonalities between photos and reality, it is necessary to bear in mind that the tones of the colours of the photos are not exactly equal to the tones of the real colours.
