Description:
- French Republic Medal. Honor for Merit.
- The medal bears two signatures: A. Massonnet, referring to the renowned Auguste Massonnet medal-making and workshop, based in Paris.
- The other signature, B. Hercule, belongs to the renowned French sculptor and medalist Benoît Lucien Hercule (1843-1913), who designed and engraved the relief.
- Obverse: The bust of the goddess Ceres appears, with the signatures of the two artists: A. Massonnet and B. Hercule. The inscription reads: Republique Française.
- Reverse: The inscription reads: Honneur Au Mérite. Paris. Surrounded by a laurel wreath.
- Edge: Plain, with only the inscription: bronze.
- The artistic quality of the medal is very high, executed in a highly personal style and with great skill, achieving harmonious and expressive effects in the high reliefs.
