PRINT BATTLE BETWEEN GIAOUR (CRISTIAN) AND PACHA.

Description:
- Color print of the Battle between Giaour and Pasha.
- The term Giaour comes from Turkish and means infidel or non-believer. It was a derogatory term used in the former Ottoman Empire to refer to people who did not practice Islam, especially Christians.
- The artist, Eugène Delacroix (1798-1863), was a French painter and lithographer. He created numerous renowned paintings, such as Liberty Leading the People. He chose Dante as a subject for several of his works. He was the most emblematic painter of the Romantic movement, whose influence extended to the Impressionists.
- The painting is a key work of Romanticism, inspired by Lord Byron''s poem of the same name about a Venetian''s revenge against a Turkish leader. It narrates the revenge of the Giaour (a derogatory term for an infidel) against Pasha Hassan, who ordered the execution of the slave Leila. It symbolizes the passionate and tragic clash between East and West.
