- Jan Van Goyen (1596-1656) was a Dutch Baroque landscape painter. He painted many of the canals in The Hague and its surroundings, as well as the villages surrounding the fields of Delft, Rotterdam, etc. He cultivated landscape and seascape painting. He was one of the main pioneers of naturalistic landscape painting in 17th-century Holland. His numerous drawings demonstrate his extensive travels throughout Holland and other countries.
- The painting, called Winter – Winter Scene on a Farm, shows several figures skating on a frozen lake and a farm on the right-hand side.
- The print is glued only at the top to a piece of cardboard, which has a beautiful dark green line surrounding the print.
