Description:
Etching probably in etching steel (can be another plate of another material and another technique). The inking of the plate is very good, and both the quality and the definition of the lines is also very good, so it responds to one of the first runs. In the lower right corner, outside the image, is the signature 'Rouargue sc'. There were two Rouargue brothers, and both were recorders. The most significant as painter and engraver was Adolphe Rouargue (1810-187?) Of which he was most likely the author of this print, although his brother Émile Rouargue (1795-1865) was also an engraver.
The Werdenberg Castle is in the district of Werdenberg, which belongs to the Canton of St. Gallen or Sankt Gallen, in the northeast of Switzerland. The Canton of San Galo is constituted with the territories acquired by the Abbey of San Galo. The view is taken from the walk to the right of a small lagoon. In this walk, today highway, the houses of its margin of the right have disappeared.
The majority of the houses that are at the foot of the hill, in which the Castle is located, are conserved. The upper and lower margins are scarce. In the upper right corner, outside the image, it has the number 19, so we thought it would belong to a series of a book. Fine paper of regular quality. The edges are slightly deteriorated, with slight folds and bent. The paper is a bit yellowish, has some dirt and small spots of rust, especially when approaching the edges. With a good cleaning and adequate bleaching, you could get a good result. Very interesting as a collector's item and decorative element.
Comments: Due to the fact that the differences in tonalities between photos and reality are inevitable, we must bear in mind that the color tones of the photos are not exactly the same as the tones of the actual colors.
