Description:
- We are looking at a very curious book, and above all rare to find.
- Although it may appear to be the book of 'Wailly's Grammar, the general and particular principles of the French language', it is in fact the famous forbidden book of 'The Adventures of Telemachus'.
- It is a very successful novel. The first edition was published illegally, in 1699, because it degraded Louis XIV. It was recognised as a scathing criticism of Louis XIV's government, whose wars and taxes on the peasantry had reduced the country to famine.
- The first copies were destroyed as soon as they appeared, but new, unauthorised editions continued to be published.
- This classic work of French political literature was at one time banned by the Inquisition.
- This is an unpublished work, where 'The Adventures of Telemachus, Son of Ulysses' was bound inside another book in order to hide it, as this book was strictly forbidden at a time when it was strictly forbidden.
- Given the date that appears in the book, 1808, we suppose that the creation of this composition would be at the beginning of the 19th century. Although we think that the Telémaque book that is hidden could be an 18th century edition, given its characteristics.
- Written in French, it contains no engravings or illustrations.

Book Description:
- Good execution sewn binding, with guillotined cuts, from the First Half of the 19th Century.
- Text and illustrations in single-colour black printing, very good ink, well centred and with good margins.
- Book printed on white laid paper, thick and of good quality.
- Brown leather hard covers.
- Cuts are painted red.

Conservation and Damage:
- General Condition: Good.
- Sewn binding in good condition. Covers are rubbed and with somewhat bent corners.
- Spine rubbed and fatigued.
- Although the book is fairly clean, there are some booklets which are much browned.
- The book has rust spots on some of its pages.
- The tips are deteriorated with light creases and folds.
- The book has not suffered from external aggressions such as insect attacks, rodents, etc.
- The book shows wear and tear typical of it's age.

Comments:
- Both the Measurements and the Weight are approximate.
- In order to take the photos of the inside pages, they have been held with tweezers.
- Very interesting book as a collector's item and curiosity.
- The tones of the colours of the photos are not exactly the same as the tones of the real colours.
- The book for sale is the one that corresponds to the photos. The description is not a detailed exposition of the book.
