ENGRAVING FURNITURE S.XIV. LION GAUCHEREL. FRANCE.

Description:
- Engraving furniture of the XIVth century.
- All the titles and signatures are outside the plate.
- In the upper margin it has the legend 'Francia - France'.
- In the lower margin it has the legend 'Meubles du XIV Siecle - Furniture of the 14th century'.
- In the upper right-hand corner is printed the number '414', which suggests that the engraving is number 414 of a series.
- In the lower right corner, outside the image, is the signature ,Lemaitre Direxit,, the engraver.
- Augustin François Lemaître: French engraver, lithographer, designer, publisher and photographer. He depicted many landscapes, monuments, architecture and people, especially during his many travels in Europe.
- In the lower left corner, outside the image, is the signature ,Gaucherel del,, the draughtsman.
- Léon Gaucherel (1816-1886). Painter and engraver, born in Paris. He engraved reproductions of ancient and contemporary paintings for various archaeological publications, but then etched reproductions of ancient and contemporary paintings.
- Chalcographic etching on steel plate, although a different technique could also have been used.
- Produced in a single-colour black tone, very well inked.
- It is probably an engraving belonging to a book.

Conservation and Damage:
- General condition: Very good.
- The ink is very good, and it has a good stamping.
- The engraving is on medium-thick paper of average thickness and regular quality, glued at the corners to another paper.
- The engraving has suffered some humidity, so the paper has small humidity stains and rust spots, all of them more pronounced as we get closer to the edges.
- The engraving is dirty, with the edges being much dirtier, with very small tears, and the tips slightly deteriorated with slight bending.
- A light washing and bleaching would be a very good result.
